July 2011 Event Preparations

Final preparation are on hand for King of the Beats the official start to the summer season.



Pre-event Challenge

The challenge preparations took place at the Notting Hill area of London when each contender has a spending limit of £20 to find a collection of music then develop new beats from what they have brought.


A total of 3 contenders will competing for the live challenge for July 16th

Braking down the locations: 2 representing London and 1 from West of England for the first time, the contenders are:


Agor

19 years old from west London creating beats for many years. Unlike many hip hop producers who uses classic soul records to produce from, Agor looks out for more rock & live music records also checks for obscure beats to produce from. He is into chopping up sounds as one of his approaches for producing beats. 


Uses MPC 100 as part of his production studio.



First-Hand

21 years old and the first London based contender from the West of England representing Bristol


As part of his production studio he uses MPC 2400 for sampling/producing and also uses Logic Effects as his drum machine


Hi-Soul

London based producer found out about King of the Beats project through his friends. I attended one of the previous events in London and enjoyed the vibe so much he wanted to be part of it. He looks onto more experimental sounds for producing. 


Each contender have only a limited amount of time to create new sounds from the records they have brought before presenting the finished track live on stage.



Other preparations:

In addition to the challenge itself the team headed to the east end of London with an exclusive video interview to King of the Beats with one of the legendary names in the UK Hip-Hop scene MC Mello



The event:

It takes place on Saturday 16th March at the Vibe Bar,  91 Brick Lane in the Spitalfields area of East London. (Nearest tube is Liverpool Street & the nearest Overground station is Shoreditch High Street) 

We are located upstairs, free entry before 8pm and £4 afterwards.


The night be co-hosted by Sparkii Skii and Tha 4orce. in the mix will be from DJ Random from the Steel Devils & Dappa, plus special guest Dusty Fingaz


Back by popular demand a competition with a chance to win a large scale illustation of J Dilla created by the director of King of the Beats - Pritt Kalsi.


Who gonna takes the create

The nights main feature is The original beat challenge, all the contenders of this challenge will be be presenting their produced their sounds on stage to a live audience. 


Each contender must bring all the records purchased as part of the challenge, the winner have own the full collection of records brought by every contender. 


Three contenders will be battle it out for the tittle of King of the Beats but there will be only one winner, this should be pure quality night not to be missed.

This project is developed and directed by Pritt Kalsi. 

The King of the Beats name, logo or any elements from the project must not be reproduced without permission.
