King of the Beats March 2011 Highlights

The first King of Beats of 2011 came into full effect.


In preparation of the night night two pre-event challenges took place in Notting Hill gate area of London & Birmingham City Centre. A total of 5 contenders represented the challenge where for the first time the majority of the contenders were not from the London.


The contenders were:


Edd Man Wilkes

Representing from midlands in Worcestershire he a currently a music student


Billy Whiz Z

A midlands based producer also from Worcestershire 


Thomas Dunstan

A third midlands based contender representing Birmingham. 

He is club promoter of the scratch club.


Malcolm 'cutmastermalc' Cook

The fourth contender from outside London he is representing from Hemel Hampstead


Mr B

The only contender in this live challenge representing the London Zone. Mr B is an emcee and a producer.


All contenders only had a few days to produce new sounds from the records they have brought with a limited budget of £20.


The Main Event

London's Vibe Bar was the venue, as always Sparkii Skii and Tha 4orce are the regular hosts with 

Deejay Random & DJ Devastate in the mix.


An extra dimension of TV cameras filming for a possible pilot TV series focusing on King of the Beats challenges and events.


Some live free-styling session including one from a previous King of the Beats winner Danny Spice over Sparkii's instrumental beats, even Tha 4orce took part.


The key part of the night was the ultimate beat challenge with 5 contenders represented, all contenders presenting the beats purchased records before play their produced sounds to the crowds while having thir records on display. Only winner to own the entire collection from all contenders.


While decisions were being made over the challenge, beat boxer Chase Rockwell entertained the crowds in his unique style. An additional freesyle from a London-based emcee Azire. Plus more mixes from DJ Devastate.


Then its was time to decide who was win the challenge. 


The winner was chosen and the title for the first King of the beats of 2011 is 

Edd Man Wilkes.


He now owns of the entire collection of record brought by every contender for this challenge. Edd was presented a framed King of the Beats record by King of the Beats director Pritt Kalsi.


The last in the series of the raffle draw for a large-scale illustration of J-Dilla(created by Pritt Kalsi) was won from a member of the audience.


On the night new & Exclusive King of the beats branded T-shirts along with released records and video were on sale to the public.
